During this last cold snap, (January 2021) our gas bill went up considerably. We run the heating on propane and our bottles hold 13Kg each. They cost £35.50 per bottle to exchange and we have exchanged one bottle after only 9 days. However, we have been warm in the van and although this is more expensive than the £70 per month for gas in a three bedroomed house it is only for a short time until the warm weather comes. Since the ice melted and the temperature rose slightly our current bottle has already lasted for 10 days and is still more than half full, however, to future proof ourselves we have just bought a diesel heater which Andy will install over the next few days.
The diesel heater will use red diesel which is half the price of normal diesel and will save us money on propane. 13kg of propane = 20 litres which costs £1.75 per litre. Red diesel = approximately 70p per litre and the heater uses the diesel very sparingly so, win win.
Here is a video of the installation
NOTE:  WE HAVE REWIRED THE DIESEL HEATER SINCE MAKING THIS VIDEO AND IT IS NOW BEING POWERED FROM THE LEISURE BATTERY!
